How the Français Pro learning path works

The learning path is a step-by-step French course for adults, especially newcomers to Canada and learners preparing for TEF Canada or TCF Canada. It takes you from your first words to exam-style practice, one short lesson at a time.

Each unit groups a few lessons around a theme and ends with a checkpoint, so you know you're ready before moving on. You can start from the beginning or take a short placement to begin at the right level.

Start at the right level

If you already know some French, the placement suggests where to start, so you don't repeat what you know. It's lightweight and doesn't erase any progress: it simply sets the path we recommend first, and you can redo it later.

If you're a complete beginner, start with the foundations: the alphabet, numbers, greetings and the words you need from day one.

  • French alphabet
  • French numbers
  • Greetings

What's in each lesson

Lessons are short and focused: a clear explanation, examples with pronunciation, and exercises that check you've understood. Most take a few minutes, so you can keep going even on busy days.

Checkpoints at the end of each unit review the unit as a whole. Passing one shows you can use what you've learned, not just recognise it.

From everyday French to exam practice

The path moves from foundations to grammar and vocabulary, then to practice that mirrors exam tasks: listening to longer messages, writing a short news article (fait divers) and writing an opinion letter, as in the TEF Canada written expression sections.

Alongside the path, the grammar, vocabulary and conversation pages let you go deeper on any topic, and the exam prep area offers timed practice by module.

  • Vocabulary
  • Conversations
  • TEF Canada exam prep

Make progress that lasts

Short, regular sessions build momentum: ten or fifteen minutes most days beats a long session once a week. Say the examples aloud, redo exercises you found hard, and review earlier units from time to time.

Your progress is saved to your account, so you can pick up where you left off on any device.

The learning path: common questions

Is the learning path free?

Yes. Learning French on Français Pro, including the learning path, is free. Credits are only used for AI-scored TEF Canada and TCF Canada mock exams; the pricing page explains how they work.

Do I need an account?

You can browse the path without one. To open lessons, take checkpoints and save your progress, create a free account.

How long does it take to finish?

It depends on your starting level and how often you practise. Because lessons are short, steady daily practice moves you through the units faster than occasional long sessions.

Will this prepare me for TEF Canada or TCF Canada?

The path builds the everyday French both exams test, and its practice units mirror exam-style tasks. For full preparation, combine it with timed practice in the exam prep area and check the official exam sites for the current format.
