Articles (le, la, les)
Master French definite and indefinite articles
Introduction to Articles
French articles are essential for proper sentence structure. Articles must agree with the gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural) of the nouns they modify.
Definite Articles
Definite articles (le, la, les, l') are used when referring to specific or known things, similar to "the" in English.
- le — the (masculine) (luh)
- la — the (feminine) (lah)
- les — the (plural) (lay)
- l' — the (before vowel) (l)
Indefinite Articles
Indefinite articles (un, une, des) are used when referring to non-specific things, similar to "a/an" and "some" in English.
- un — a/an (masculine) (uhn)
- une — a/an (feminine) (oon)
- des — some (plural) (day)
